KPT clears 5,600 containers

KARACHI, Aug 28 The Karachi Port has waived demurrage and storage charges on all categories of cargoes, which could not be cleared owing to goods transporters' strike from 19 to 26 of this month.

On the directives of the minister for ports and shipping the KPT waived demurrage and storage charges, which directly benefited the trade and industry.

As a large number of containers and bulk cargo accumulated in the port area measures were taken by the port authorities to clear the backlog at the earliest. Consequently, more than 5,600 containers were transported from the port during last two days.

According to details 2,700 containers were moved out from Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT), 2,004 boxes from Pakistan International Container Terminal (PICT) and 918 Teus from the KPT area were loaded on trucks.

As a result of brisk activity in total 1,673 trailers loaded with containers and 210 railway wagons left the Karachi Port. Similarly, double the number of loading vehicles entered the port premises with export cargo.
