KARACHI: Suspect killed in Orangi

KARACHI, Jan 18 A 30-year-old suspected dacoit was killed and his younger brother arrested in what the police claimed was a shoot-out in Orangi Town on Sunday.

The Mominabad police said that two policemen were patrolling the locality on their motorcycle when at around 7.30am they spotted three suspects sitting near Bijli Nagar.

They said that the suspects opened fire as they saw the policemen approaching. The police said that the policemen also returned fire and one of the suspects was killed in the shoot-out. They said the policemen arrested one of the suspects, while the third accomplice managed to flee under the cover of fire.

The killed suspect was identified as Adam Khan, son of Muhabbat Khan, and his arrested brother as Akbar Khan.

The absconding accomplice was identified as Tameen Khan.

The police said that two TT pistols were recovered from the suspects, who were residents of Bismillah Colony, a shanty-town in Orangi.

The suspects hailed from Swat.

Body found

The body of a 42-year-old man, stuffed in a gunny bag, was found at a desolate place near Jauhar Mor in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, police and witnesses said.

They said that the victim was identified as Sarwat Ullah, son of Rehmat Ullah, a resident of house no 299/4 in Buffer Zone and a fresh milk trader.

The police said the body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.

Sources at the hospital's medico-legal section told Dawn that the victim received fatal wounds to the head by a heavy object, most probably a club. They said that the body also bore marks of torture.

The police quoted the victim's family as telling them that he had left his house on Saturday night and had been missing since then.

They said that a case against unknown culprits was registered under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim's brother.

The police said that the incident seemed to be motivated by a personal feud.

Bungled robbery

A worker of the Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party, who was shot and wounded on Saturday night during a bungled robbery in Sachal police limits, died at the hospital.

The police said that Allah Bux Khoso was shot and wounded by two dacoits who wanted to rob him of his cellular phone at gunpoint.

They said that the victim was shot in his chest and was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre in critical condition.

The police said that the victim's family had taken the body to their hometown in Dadu for burial.

They said that a case against unknown culprits would be lodged on the complaint of a relative of the victim once they come back to the city after the funeral.

Suspects arrested

The CID police arrested three suspects involved in several cases of bank robberies, kidnappings for ransom, murders and other heinous crimes.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, the CID SP, Fayyaz Khan, said that the suspects - Farooq alias Kala, Shahjahan alias Sajan, and Afroze Alam alias Guddu - were arrested on a tip-off in the Garden West area two days ago.

He said the police had seized two AK-47 rifles (Kalashnikov) and a TT pistol from the suspects at the time of their arrest.

The SP said later the police seized nine AK-47 rifles, two SMGs (MP5s), two repeaters, three 7MM rifles, one Uzi Scorpion gun, 11 TT pistols, one 9MM pistol and two .222 rifles on a lead given by the suspects.

He said that the suspects had looted Rs4 million from a bank van in Taimuria police limits late last year.

MQM worker shot dead

A worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was found shot dead late Sunday night in Lyari.
Police said that the body of Zafar Niazi was lying near Ghausia Masjid in Kalri police area. They said the victim was shot in the head from a point blank rage as the bullet went through his skull.
