PESHAWAR A jubilant Asfandyar Wali Khan praised the agreement over renaming the NWFP as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and praised both President Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif for their role in achieving the consensus.

“Today the name of Pakhtunkhwa has appeared on the map of Pakistan,” Wali said.

Wali said despite internal party opposition Nawaz Sharif eventually chose to act in the national interest. He added that the process of political reconciliation involved give and take and the newly reached consensus was an example of this approach.

Wali pledged that members of smaller communities in the province formerly known as the NWFP would not be discriminated against.

In response to a question, he said there were many other languages spoken in both Sindh and Punjab, yet no one had any objection over the names of those provinces. — DawnNews
