ISLAMABAD Aug 11 Brazil has announced a contribution of 155 tons of wheat flour for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) through World Food Programme (WFP) managed 'Relief Bank'.

The announcement was made by Brazilian Ambassador Carlos Eduardo Sette C. da Fonseca Costa along with Minister Consular and Charge d'Affaires Gustavo Guimaraes here on Tuesday. The envoy presented a symbolic bag of wheat flour to WFP representative in Pakistan Wolfgang Herbinger. “The humanitarian assistance from Brazil conveys a message of solidarity and goodwill to the Pakistani people on behalf of the Brazilian people, who still struggle against famine and represents a contribution to a better future for the displaced persons and for this country,” he said after signing the donation certificate.

The Brazilian embassy has channelled this donation through the WFP managed 'Relief Bank' in Azakhel near Peshawar, where the agency is receiving many in-kind food donations from Pakistan citizens, companies and government authorities.

“We are thankful to the Embassy of Brazil for the in-kind contribution to our relief bank. We see this as beginning of a new partnership and hope the government of Brazil in future will also contribute directly to other WFP programmes in Pakistan,” Wolfgang Herbinger said.
