KARACHI, July 6 The Sindh High Court on Tuesday issued notices to an adviser to the Sindh chief minister and a former provincial minister in a petition against harassment of a woman.

Petitioner Sakina Mallah alleged that the adviser, Ghulam Qadir Malkani, and the former minister, Usman Malkani, had forced her to make a statement before a judicial magistrate that she had been kidnapped by their rivals, Umer Jat and Ahmed Jat, with the intention to rape her.

She informed the court that since it was a forced statement, she deviated from it but the adviser and the ex-minister were threatening her with dire consequences.

The petitioner further stated that she had approached the police officials concerned but they refused to take any action against them.

She impleaded Ghulam Qadir Malkani and Usman Malkani, Thatta district police officer and SHO of the police station concerned as respondents.

A single SHC bench comprising Justice Ghulam Sarwar Kori put the respondents on notice till July 13.

Meanwhile, a division bench of the Sindh High Court on Tuesday stayed a notification pertaining to the Karachi City Cricket Association election results.

Petitioner Shah Ziauddin told the court that Sairj-ul-Islam Bukhari was declared elected as KCCA president in the recent election of the association, although he was not eligible for the post as he was a public servant.

The petitioner stated that Ijaz Farooqui (secretary) and Mehdi Hasan (treasurer) were also not eligible to contest the election, stating that the former presently held two offices and the latter had already completed his two terms and the rules did not allow him to seek a third term. The petitioner prayed to the court to suspend the notification and declare the election unlawful.

The court directed the respondents to submit their comments within the next two weeks.
