ISLAMABAD, May 9 Under a new strategy to show its strength as the “only real opposition party”, the PML-Q plans to submit a series of adjournment motions and call-attention notices during the National Assembly session over the next few days.

The party will raise the issues of non-enforcement of the minimum wage, regularisation of the employees of the National Programme for Improvement of Watercourses and demands of the All Pakistan Clerks Association.

MNA Marvi Memon said several issues raised by her party were apparently “killed” by the speaker's secretariat.

She said questions would be asked about the implementation of Supreme Court's judgment on the National Reconciliation Ordinance and resignation by members of the government's legal team, imposition of the value added tax without consulting the provinces and the water issue with India.

She said the government would be asked about the amount saved by catching cases of electricity theft through an aggressive marketing campaign over the past two years, about an inquiry committee of the Securities and Exchange Commission and about a delay in wheat procurement and payment of compensation to farmers in south Punjab and upper Sindh.

The MNA said discussion would be sought on the people displaced from Orakzai Agency, increase in prices of pulses at Utility Stores, and impact of energy conservation measures on small traders and daily wagers.

She said the issues of kidnapping and target killing, non-implementation of financial packages announced for Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, the Hunza landslide and a drop in furnace oil reserves would also be raised.

Notices and motions would also be submitted about the proposed accountability law and the country's relations with the United States and India and cases of karo-kari, she said.

Ms Memon said the motions and notices would be submitted by Faisal Saleh Hayat, Amir Muqam, Donia Aziz, Humayun Saifullah Khan and Bushra Rehman.
