Arif Nizami elected APNS president

KARACHI, March 19: Arif Nizami of Nawa-i-Waqt and Mohammad Aslam Kazi of Kawish have been elected president and general secretary, respectively, of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society for the year 2003-04, says a press release issued here on Wednesday night.

The newly-elected executive committee of the APNS at its first meeting held in Karachi also elected Syed Fasih Iqbal of Balochistan Times as senior vice-president, Mumtaz A Tahir of daily Aftab, Multan, as vice-president, Mushtaq Ahmed Qureshi of monthly Naey Ufaq as joint secretary and Waqar Yousuf Azeemi of monthly Roohani Digest as finance secretary.

At the APNS annual general meeting, presided over by the outgoing president, Hameed Haroon, the general council adopted the annual report of the executive committee for the preceding year.

The general council, attended by members from across the country, formed an election commission, headed by Mahmoodul Aziz (Pictorial News Review), with Shaheen Qureshi (Pakistan Times) and Younus Riaz (Beopar) as members. The election commission also conducted the election of the APNS executive committee for the year 2003-2004.
