QUETTA The Principal of Commerce College, Quetta, Prof Mirza Amanat Ali Baig, was gunned down here on Tuesday morning.

According to sources, Mr Baig was on his way to college in his car. When he reached near the college some men on motorcycles opened indiscriminate fire with automatic weapons on his car.

Prof Baig received many bullets and died on the spot. After the attack the assailants escaped from the scene on their motorbike. The body of the slain professor was shifted to the civil hospital.

The students of the college boycotted their classes and gathered in front of the hospital. They chanted slogans against the killing and demanded the immediate arrest of the killers.

Deputy Inspector-General of police Shahid Nizam Durrani told newsmen that police and law enforcement agencies had taken some people into custody in connection with the four target killings that occurred in Quetta within 24 hours.

'Police parties are raiding various areas in connection with these killings and soon culprits would be arrested,' he said.

Meanwhile, a labourer working in Mand, a town on the Pakistan-Iran border, was shot dead. According to police sources, the man was on his way home when he was attacked.
