ISLAMABAD The informal, self-applied guidelines for covering terrorism-related incidents in the country worked out by news managers of eight TV channels early this month have been endorsed by another eight channels.

Media professionals from Aaj News, ARY News, Awaz TV, Business Plus, Channel Five, Dawn News, Din News, Dunya News, Express News, Geo News, Khyber News, News One, Punjab TV and Star Asia, Royal News, Sama News and Waqt News who met here on Saturday voluntarily committed themselves to the broad guidelines concerning terrorism coverage.

They agreed to speed up the process of implementation of the voluntary coverage rules in line with each channel's technical capacity and editorial policy.

It was unanimously agreed that arrangements might be made to provide mid-career training to camera crew, reporters, panel producers and news anchorpersons to further professionalise their work. The training may be organised by respective channels for their staff or may be a collective effort for a cross section of electronic mediapersons.

The news managers from across Pakistan agreed to closely liaise with each other on professional matters, especially those relating to public and viewer interest.
