KUWAIT CITY, Jan 27: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has reiterated that Pakistan was very much concerned over the developments in the Gulf region and wanted to resolve the issues with Iraq peacefully without a shot from a gun.
Prime Minister Jamali, who arrived here on Monday on an official visit, was talking to the Pakistani community at Bayan Palace.
Mr Jamali said that he was on a mission to the Gulf States to appraise its leaders the consequence and implications of war, in case the United States attacks on Iraq.
He said Pakistan being an important member of the Muslim Ummah was concerned over the developments in the Gulf region and was working closely with the friendly states to avoid war in the region.
He said Pakistan stands with Kuwait during the war of 1990-1991 adding that we are still supporting Kuwait, but said that on the other hand Pakistan also does not want destruction and misery of the Iraqi people.
He said the whole world does not want war and Pakistan too has its voice in the world opinion.
Mr Jamali earlier on Monday also held formal talks with Kuwait Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah and other high-ranking officials and discussed with them matters of mutual interest with focus on Iraq.
OIL SUPPLY: Kuwait has taken adequate steps to ensure smooth oil supply to Pakistan even during any crisis situation, adds APP.
Sheikh Al Sabah on Monday assured this to the Pakistani delegation, led by Mr Jamali.
Briefing the newsmen, the Ambassador of Pakistan to Kuwait, Shafqat Saeed said both the countries had already signed an agreement early this month for supply of oil and oil products on deferred payments.
He said it was an annual agreement and is usually signed in the beginning of the year. Pakistan is a major destination of oil and its products for Kuwait.
JOINT COMMISSION: Pakistan and Kuwait on Monday decided to re-activate the joint ministerial commission to promote bilateral economic ties and explore the possibilities of joint ventures.
The Commission would soon hold a meeting in Islamabad, led by Commerce Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Saleh Khursheed and Adviser to PM on Finance Shaukat Aziz from Pakistan.
