ISLAMABAD: Secretary Election Commission Ishtiaq Ahmed said on Thursday that the arrangements for holding general elections were finalised and that mobile phone services would not be suspended on election day.

Talking to media after a meeting of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), he said that provision of security to the contesting candidates, political leaders, voters and polling staff is the sole responsibility of the provincial and the federal governments.

Ishtiaq added that all the polling stations would be established in accordance to the Commission's directives.

Responding to complaints regarding establishment of polling stations, he said the issue would be settled within two days.

He expressed the hope that all the arrangements regarding the provision of security would be made in accordance with the given plan.

He said details about the polling station in which a voter is required to cast vote could be ascertained on mobile phone by sending SMS on 8300 from May 6.

The Secretary said that the Election Commission is ready to hold elections, and no government would like to vitiate the law and order situation.

He further said despite all difficulties the Election Commission is moving towards the elections.

He said all the political parties should also ensure the security of the polling staff and the polling stations.

The secretary said one or two media-persons would be allowed to enter in side the polling stations.

He said that meeting had not discussed issue of KPK and Balochistan governors.
