KARACHI, April 29: The Darakhshan police have arrested Mohammed Shoaib, a teenage murder suspect who allegedly asked his private security guard to gun down his teenage friend after a brief quarrel over a girl.

Officials said that the police after registering an FIR arrested the suspect though his private security guard managed to escape after the incident.

“Both the suspects have been nominated in the FIR,” said an official at the Darakhshan police station. “The security guard named Amal was engaged by the suspect’s family, who hired his services through a private security company Sherdil Securities. We have recovered the gun which was used in the firing.” According to the police, 16-year-old Hamza had accused Shoaib of harassing his female friend.

The girl had complained to Hamza, who called Shoaib and asked him to keep away from the girl.

However, they set up a meeting at a restaurant in Khayaban-e-Shar in DHA, where Shoaib proposed to resolve the matter, but it turned ugly when an altercation between the two teenagers broke out and ended with Hamza’s life.

The fresh incident came as a grim reminder of the Shahzeb Khan murder case.

Shahzeb was allegedly killed by his industrialist neighbour’s son Shahrukh Jatoi outside their apartments in DHA in December 2012.

The incident sparked widespread protests by the civil society after it became headlines and attracted a suo motu notice by the chief justice of Pakistan.

“However, in this case [Hamza murder] the suspect — Shoaib — is an underage teen. The police are still in the process of investigation and making efforts for the arrest of the security guard,” said the official.
