ISLAMABAD, Jan 23: The residents of Kutcha abadi, Sector F-6/2, staged a demonstration on School Road to protest against the low-income housing scheme being launched in the area.

The scheme involves construction and sale of 190 flats costing Rs3.5 lakh each to the residents of the abadi and is financed by Amjad Khan, a bogeyman currently in jail on massive corruption charges in various real estate deals.

The demonstrators carried placards inscribed with slogans demanding health care and education facilities for the dwellers of the slums.

The demonstrators urged the government to provide proprietary rights to the poor people in accordance with the commitments made by General Musharraf to the masses during his referendum campaign. They also urged the government to also hold accountability of the big-shots.
