SIALKOT, Oct 20: A goat was killed and two houses damaged due to Indian mortar shelling on Pakistani border villages in Sialkot working boundary’s Zafarwal-Shakargarh-Narowal sector on Sunday.

According to official sources, the Indian forces fired several heavy mortar shells on Pakistani border villages Oara, Bhopal, Chak Nao, Bara Bhai, on Saturday night and Sunday. One goat was killed while two houses were damaged in the shelling. However, several shells could not explode.

“Pakistani security forces responded immediately, causing a heavy defensive loss to the enemy”, the sources said.

ARRESTED: Over 56 people were arrested on Sunday for violating the ban on manufacturing, selling, buying and use of fireworks.

They were arrested from Sialkot city, Cantonment, Daska, Bhopalwala, Sambrial, Begowala, Ugoki, Motra, Pasrur, Badiana and Chawinda.

EXPORTS: There was a 45 per cent decline in the export of leather garments during the last three months.

This was stated by local chamber of commerce and industry senior vice-president Sadiq Goraya while talking to newsmen here on Sunday.

He said Pakistani exporters remained unable in getting the maximum export orders of leather garments during all the international export exhibitions due to the high cost of production of exportable items.

He said the rising petrol prices and high markup ratios have raised the rates of raw materials, besides increasing the cost of production.

He urged the government to take steps for promoting leather garments’ exports, besides announcing a special package of incentives for Sialkot exporters.

VISIT: A group of lecturers and students from the National College of Defence will visit the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Monday.
