ISLAMABAD, Oct 17: Tremendous opportunities of cooperation in the environmental sector exist between Turkey and Pakistan and both the countries will soon be working on various proposals for protection of the mountainous regions.

These views were expressed by Turkish ambassador to Pakistan H. Kemal Gur and the federal minister for environment, local government and rural development, Barrister Shahida Jamil.

According to a press release issued here on Thursday, the Turkish ambassador called on Barrister Jamil and discussed various possibilities of cooperation in the environmental sector.

The minister said the two richest sources of freshwater in the world- Hindukush and Ontario- lie in Pakistan and Turkey and the two countries could jointly work for the preservation and protection of these precious resources.

She informed the ambassador about various projects of the environment ministry and presented him with a green folder of the ministry containing informative material regarding these projects.

The envoy apprised the minister of the achievements of the Turkish ministry of environment in the wake of Chernobyl disaster which affected the environment there.
