KARACHI, Oct 6: The Sindh Democratic Alliance has pledged to strive for the welfare and prosperity of the people of Sindh and work for attaining full provincial autonomy within the spirit of federalism.

The SDA has also promised to get the provincial share from the federal government not on the basis of population but on the basis of revenue generation.

The SDA released its “Election 2002” manifesto on Sunday in a press conference addressed by SDA Secretary General Al-Haj Shamimuddin at the Karachi Press Club.

The manifesto, spread over 21 pages, it is silent about the foreign and fiscal policies, and mostly deals with issues pertaining to provinces.

In the preface, the SDA has pointed out that in the past the power acquired in the name of the people of Sindh failed to change the condition of the poor in the province, resulting in the increasing unemployment and poverty. During the last half century the people of Sindh participated in the democratic struggle, but without any result. It says: “The SDA is participating in the election to turn Sindh into a model province and to strive for obtaining the objectives of the establishment of Pakistan, to ensure for people of Pakistan, particularly for the people of Sindh, dignity, honour and peace.

“The SDA believes in harmony among all the people living in the province and will serve them without any discrimination on the basis of culture, language and religion.”

“The SDA will ensure that the people need not visit offices for water, power, gas and phone connections and these facilities will be provided to them at their doorsteps.

Administrative expenditures will be curtailed, corruption will be checked at every level and the province will be provided an honest and diligent administration. The institution of ombudsman will be set up at the district level. People will be provided all health facilities. The educational system will be utilised to promote culture and the rich and the poor will be provided equal opportunities.”
