150 PPP workers booked

THATTA, Sept 29: About 150 PPP workers, including a provincial and a national assembly candidate, were booked by the Mirpur Bathoro police for disturbing law and order on late Saturday night.

Those who were booked include, the People’s Party Parliamentarians candidate from NA-238, Arbab Wazir Ahmed Memon, the PPP candidate from PS-86, Haji Shams Memon, Aijaz Ali Khwaja, the district president of the party’s women’s wing, Rehana Laghari and Wahid Dino Parhiar.

They have been charged with blocking of road, firing, clash and creating rumpus in the town.

According to the FIR, hundreds of PPP workers had clashed with the Shirazi group’s candidate for PS-86 Ayaz Ali Shah Shirazi and his supporters, creating law and order situation.

However, eyewitnesses said that the PPP camp was surrounded by the workers of their rival group, led by Ayaz Shah Shirazi, surrounded it. Both sides raised inflammatory slogans resulting in deteriorating situation.

Parhiar was slapped by an activist of Shirazi group, which led to the rumpus. In the ensuing clash Rehana Laghari and others received minor injuries.

The PPP activists rushed to the police station but were denied FIR.

Later, they staged a sit-in on the Sujawal-Hyderabad road, blocking it for about an hour.

Meanwhile, six persons were arrested from their homes as police raided the houses of PPP workers in Mirpur Sakro, Ghulamullah, Sujawal and Chhutto Chand. Four others were arrested in Sujawal.
