Fire kills 5 Pakistanis

TEHRAN, Aug 11: A young Iranian heroin addict set his home on fire, killing his mother and five Pakistanis living in neighbouring flats, the Etemad daily reported on Sunday.

The man, identified only as Shahrokh, poured petrol on the building after a row with his mother on Saturday, the paper said.

The fire spread to neighbouring flats in the same complex in the Panemar district of south Tehran, killing four Pakistani children and their mother, and wounding another six Pakistanis. Shahrokh escaped unharmed and was later picked up by police.

According to a neighbour quoted by the paper, he was a known pyromaniac who had already tried to set fire to his home on four previous occasions.—AFP
