LAHORE, July 23: Moin Qureshi was a green card holder and not a US citizen when he took over as caretaker prime minister of Pakistan in 1993, an application moved in the Lahore High Court said on Tuesday.

Claiming to be a friend of the ex-PM, applicant Mushtaq Qureshi submitted through Advocate Muhammad Afaq that he was surprised to read the court query as to how Moin Qureshi could become premier of Pakistan despite holding US nationality. The applicant said Mr Qureshi was and is not a US citizen. He only holds a green card, which enables him to carry on his business in the United States.

The question arose during the hearing of a writ petition filed by a US national of Pakistani origin, Umar Ahmad Ghumman, for permission to contest the upcoming polls in Pakistan. The petition is fixed before Justice Tasaddaq Hussain Jilani for hearing on July 26.

DELIMITATION: A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed more petitions challenging delimitation of constituencies by the Election Commission. The petitioners alleged that the constituencies

were not demarcated in accordance with the provisions of the Delimitation of Constituencies Act, 1974, and that objections to preliminary proposals were heard by a single member and not by the commission as a whole. — Staff Reporter
