LONDON, April 30: Footstepsinthesand, trained in Ireland by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Kieren Fallon, won the English 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday. The colt, a 13-2 shot, took up the running in the last 250 metres and held off 100-1 outsiders Rebel Rebel and Kandidate, winning by one and a quarter lengths. The disappointment of the race, the first classic of the season, was the 11-8 favourite Dubawi, the mount of Frankie Dettori, who wandered across the course in the final 200 metres and lost all chance, ending up fifth of the 19 runners. It was a first big race success for Fallon in his new role as stable jockey to O’Brien.—Reuters
