KARACHI, April 2: The government has chalked out a strategy to check soaring prices of essential commodities. Under the strategy, the Sindh government would extend support to the City District Government in its drive against hoarders and traders indulging in profiteering by creating an artificial shortage in the market.

The government has formulated the policy a following visit by the Chief Secretary, Dr Mutawakkil Kazi, to different markets and Bazaars in the city in the wake of reports about hardships of common man due to unbridled soaring prices.

The chief secretary issued instructions to the police and home department, District Development Officer (Revenue) and other concerned departments to ensure their full cooperation to the city district government which had launched a campaign to rein the prices of essential commodities.

Dr Kazi said hoarders of commodities and profiteers should be taken to task and necessary action be initiated against them.

According to EDO Raeesuddin Paracha steps had already been taken against all those persons to stabilise the prices of essential commodities in towns of the district. These steps had stabilise prices. He also sought the support of police for taking action against hoarders and profiteers.
