HYDERABAD, April 2: The Sindh Abadgar Board has expressed satisfaction over the decision of Irsa that water distribution will be done in accordance with the 1991 water accord.
At a meeting of the executive committee here on Saturday, the board warned the government that it should remain vigilant about flood due to expected heavy rains this year.
Mr Abdul Majeed Nizamani presided over the meeting.
It expressed pleasure over the release of water downstream of the Kotri Barrage after 10 months.
The meeting demanded that infrastructure of Guddu, Sukkur and Kotri barrages and embankments of the Indus river and the main canals should be strengthened.
It called upon the government that arrangements should be made for the release of 1.2 million to 1.3 million cusec of water in the Indus river up to the sea.
The meeting recalled that the flood of 1976 had caused widespread devastations, therefore, this time disaster should be avoided by strengthening all embankments of the river.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the law and order situation in Sindh, the meeting observed that where judges were released after paying ransom, thousands of law enforcement personnel were deployed for the protection of the president and the prime minister, creating massive traffic jams.
The meeting observed that a country where rape victims had to leave for foreign countries, could not progress politically or economically.
It demanded that life, property and honour of every citizen should be protected to create a sense of security among the people.
In a resolution, the board expressed resentment over alleged excesses in the distribution of fertilizer in Sindh.
The meeting pointed out that according to government’s own decision, Sindh had to be supplied 23 per cent of fertilizers but in practice only 10 per cent fertilizers was supplied.
It demanded that the government should enforce its own decision in respect of distribution of fertilizers in a judicious manner.
It demanded that the warehouses of various fertilizer companies in Sindh should be reopened and exemplary punishment should be awarded to those companies which were selling spurious fertilizers.
It called upon the government to accelerate the pace for procurement of wheat.
ZARKHAIZ SCHEME: The Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited intended to start one-window operation (Zarkhaiz) from April 4 to meet the input credit requirements of growers on time.
In a communication addressed to the senior member of the Sindh Board of Revenue, a copy of which was faxed to Dawn the executive director of the bank said for disbursement of production loans through one-window operation every Monday and Tuesday funds would be disbursed among farmers.
He said allocation of funds had already been made to regional branches of the bank.
He urged the Board of Revenue to direct revenue authorities for necessary arrangements/assistance for successful implementation of one-window operation with a view to improving crop production specially foreign exchange earning crops such as cotton and rice.
ASRC: The Army Selection and Recruitment Centre Hyderabad has announced that its mobile recruitment team will carry out registration and selection of youths into the Pakistan Army this month.
The mobile recruitment team will be available at the municipal committee Sanghar on April 6, municipal committee Nawabshah on April 7, Town committee Digri on April 11, municipal committee Badin on April 13 and municipal committee Mithi on April 14 to recruit youth in the army.
