SARGODHA, March 20: A medical officer of Pind Daden Khan THQ Hospital and five others were arrested for tampering with the record of Sargodha DHQ Hospital after taking bribe from a murder accused party. Kuthialan Sheikhan police had registered a case against Khalid Ejaz, Afzal Mehdi of Mandi Bahauddin and their accomplices for murdering Saqib Jaulana on Jan 28, 1999. Ahmed Yar, the deceased’s father, alleged that the accused party with the connivance of Dr Zulfikar Hussain Sherazi, then posted as MO at Sargodha DHQ Hospital, succeeded in making a forged entry in the record. He alleged that the MO showed that Khalid Ejaz, one of the nominated accused, had been admitted to the DHQ hospital on Jan 27, 1999, a day before the occurrence of the murder incident.

The Anti-Corruption Establis-hment had registered a case against MO Zulfikar Sherazi, ward servant Fazal Hussain, dispenser Shuja Rehman, head nurse Maqsoodan Bibi, Khalid Ejaz and Afzal Mehdi on April 1, 2002.

Earlier in 2002, a committee comprising Dr Aziz Ahmed, Dr Javed Iqbal, Dr Tahir Munir and others probed the matter and found them guilty of charges, but the accused were not arrested.

Another team consisting of Dr Latif Awan, Dr Zafar Iqbal Niazi and others conducted an inquiry and held them responsible for the criminal act on March 15, 2005. Although all the accused were arrested, the people expressed their apprehension as to why the matter has been delaying for the last six years.

INQUIRY: Inquiry against the alleged corruption of millions of rupees has been initiated against the planning and works district officer during his posting as planning and works director at Khushab.

This inquiry has reportedly been started on the direction of Khushab District Nazim. Gulzar Ahmed Farooqi had allegedly used old and substandard material in water supply project in Padhrar village. He had the work, still incomplete, done through firms of his nephew. Neither the water pump nor the pipeline laid in various areas is functional, but the expenditures for the project had long been taken.

About half a million rupees have reportedly been withdrawn for installation of signals, but so far only two of them are installed. The corruption surfaced when the official was transferred to Sargodha some six months back.
