HYDERABAD, March 4: A large number of industrial workers under the banner of the National Labour Federation staged a demonstration outside the press club here on Friday in protest against sharp increases in prices of petrol, wheat flour, sugar and gas.

Speaking on the occasion, the Sindh president of the federation, Rana Mehmood Ali, said the government was committing the economic murder of the working class by increasing prices of essential consumer goods.

He called upon political parties, transporters, trade unions and masses to give a strike call in protest against price hike. He said during the government of Gen Pervez Musharraf, the prices of petrol had increased by Rs22 per litre which had jolted the country's economy. On the other hand, he said, the house rent of the minister had been increased by Rs15,000 per month.

PTA: The Primary Teachers Association, led by district president of the association, Mr Munir Bhatti, staged a demonstration outside the press club in protest against the central president.

They raised slogans against Rafiq Jarwar for dividing the association. Speaking at a news conference Munir Bhatti said the central president was trying to divide 125,000 primary teachers to protect his own personal interests.

Mr Bhatti said elections were to be held after five months but till date even members of elections committee had not been appointed. He said the association had not personal fief of any one.

He announced the movement to remove Rafiq Jarwar from the post would be launched throughout Sindh from March 7. He appealed to former and incumbent office-bearers, right from the taluka to the central level to support the movement for saving the association.

EXAMS: The controller of examinations, University of Sindh, on Thursday announced result of special semester examination 2003 of various institutes and departments. The result include BA (hons) part-I, II, BA (hons) part-III, MA (final) honours and MA (final) pass of mass communication, sociology and political science.

The controller announced the result of BSc (hons) Part-I, II and MSc (final) pass of psychology, BSc (hons) part-I, II, III and MSc (hons) microbiology. He announced the result of BSc (hons) part-I, II, III, MSc (previous), MSc (hons) and MSc (pass) botany. The controller of examinations announced results of BA (hons) part-I, II and III and MA (final) honours of economics.
