DADU, March 1: Polio has been controlled to the extent of 95 per cent throughout the world and the anti-polio campaign is continuing in six affected countries, Pakistan, Egypt, Nigeria, Niger, India and Afghanistan.

This was stated by representatives of the WHO anti-polio monitoring team, Dr Hans Evert from Geneva, Dr Farhan and Dr Azhar Mehmood from Islamabad and Dr Nisar Solangi from Sindh, while briefing journalists here on Tuesday.

Team leader Dr Evert said one of 200 people was infected with polio. Dr Mehmood said polio rounds would continue in the country in April and June during the current year.

He said 1,129 mobile teams had started administering polio drops to 439,278 children in the district. Meanwhile, DCO Alam Din Bullo inaugurated the anti-polio campaign in the district by administering drops to children at the Dadu Civil Hospital.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: A three-day anti-polio campaign was launched here on Tuesday. Talking to journalists, the EDO, health, Dr Irshad Talpur, said the district had been divided into 19 zones and 119 area supervisors would monitor working of 638 teams constituted to administer polio drops to 206,571 children up to five years of age.
