ISLAMABAD, Feb 21: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Monday ruled out any political change in Sindh and asked the PM's Inspection Team to launch a probe into the affairs of the Sindh revenue department in the wake of allegations of corruption levelled by the chief minister against his revenue minister Imtiaz Shaikh.

Mr Aziz also directed the chairman of the inspection team to hold an impartial probe by contacting all relevant parties. The prime minister also met President Gen Pervez Musharraf at his camp office and briefed him on his just-concluded visit to Saudi Arabia and discussed his two-day visit to Iran beginning on Tuesday.

They also reviewed the Sindh crisis and the Balochistan situation and expressed their satisfaction over the peaceful observance of Ashura in the country. They appreciated law and order arrangements made for the occasion.

PML President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Secretary General Mushahid Hussain also met Mr Aziz and discussed with him the situation in Sindh and presented their proposals to sort out the matter.

Earlier in the day, the prime minister visited the rain-affected areas of Murree and Abbottabad soon after his return from Saudi Arabia. He was accompanied by Chaudhry Shujaat and Mushahid Hussain.

The prime minister spoke to the people gathered in Murree and assured them of his government's full support. He said both the PML and the government were pooling their resources to help the affected people.

The prime minister ordered payment of Rs100,000 and Rs50,000 as compensation to the heirs of the deceased and those seriously injured in rain-related incidents. Later, talking to newsmen at the Prime Minister's House, Mr Aziz termed his visit to Saudi Arabia a great success during which he called upon Saudi investors to invest in Pakistan.

He said he met OIC Secretary General Ihsan Oglo and presented his proposals for the restructuring of the organization. The prime minister said he had also held talks with Afghan President Hamid Karzai in Jeddah and discussed measures to boost economic relations between the two countries.

During meetings with King Fahd, Prince Abdullah and other Saudi leaders, bilateral relations, developments in the region, situation in the Middle East and the Indo-Pakistan composite dialogue process came under discussion.

The prime minister said he also met Saudi Interior Minister Prince Naif and discussed with him cooperation in security matters between the two countries. The prime minister said he also met Prince Walid bin Talal, the fourth richest man in the world, and invited him to visit Pakistan and assess investment opportunities here.

In reply to a question about his forthcoming visit to Tehran, he said he would not like to say anything now on Pakistan's stand on the Iran-US standoff over nuclear issue and would like to express his views after meeting the Iranian leadership.

He said during his Tehran visit, talks would also be held on the gas pipeline project as Pakistan needed at least two of the three proposed trans-national gas pipelines functional to meet its energy requirements. The prime minister said he would hold talks on all aspects, including political and economic issues with the Iranian leadership.

Mr Aziz said he had decided to task his inspection team to hold investigations into the revenue department affairs and related allegations after discussing the issue with Chaudhry Shujaat, Mushahid Hussain, Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad and Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim.

The team would start work on Tuesday and submit its report soon, he added. The decision to inquire into the allegations had been taken in consultation with the party leadership which had sent a separate fact-finding mission to Karachi to assess the political impact of the situation.
