LAHORE: Spelling contest concludes

LAHORE, Feb 3: The City Finals of the Dawn in Education Spelling Bee championship concluded here on Thursday after three days of exciting and thrilling rounds.

As many as 45 schools' (three-member team each) participated in the City Finals held in the categories of 9-11, 12-14 and 15-17 age groups at Ali Institute of Education auditorium.

After exciting spelling rounds, the teams from Beacon house School System, Defence branch, (9-11 years age group); Bloom field Hall School, Johar Town branch (12-14 years age group); and Aligarh Higher Secondary School, Lahore, (15-17 years age group) emerged as winners.

The City champions from Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi will participate in the national finals scheduled to be held in Karachi on Feb 7. The city champions will compete in the national finals on an individual basis for the selection as national champions in respective age-group categories.

The winners who will participate in the national finals are: Aleeshay Obaid, Haris Bin Amir and Haider Humayun Khan from Beacon house School System, Defence branch, (9-11 years age group); Muhammad Taimur Murad, Yumna Fatima and Khwaja Isaam Bin Haris from Bloom field Hall School, Johar Town branch (12-14 years age group); and Khadija Zafar, Aneeta Niazi and Huma Khan from Aligarh Higher Secondary School, Lahore, (15-17 years age group).

According to results, teams from The Laureate Lahore (junior school) and Convent of Jesus and Mary secured first and second runners-up positions, respectively, in the 9-11 age group.

In 12-14 years age group, the teams from Lahore Grammar School, 55-Main Gulberg, and Beacon house School System, Girls branch PIA Colony (Johar Town) bagged first and second runners-up positions, respectively.

In 15-17 years age group, the teams from Lahore Grammar School, M.M. Alam Road, and Beacon house School System, Defence branch, remained first and second runners-up, respectively. Around 250 schools participated in the city finals held in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi.
