WANA, Jan 30: One Afghan soldier was killed and another wounded during an exchange of fire between Pakistani security forces and Afghan National Army near Angor Adda, South Waziristan Agency, on Saturday night, officials and residents said.

Sources said that clashes started between the security forces of the two countries near Angor Adda bazaar - a small town on the Pakistani side - at about 3am. The fierce gun-battle continued for more than two hours.

Citing the reason for the skirmish, an official told Dawn that Afghan soldiers, in hot pursuit of some militants, intruded into Pakistani area in Angor Adda, about 35km west of Wana.

He said that Pakistani regular and paramilitary troops fired a few shots to halt movement of the Afghan troops that led to a two-hour battle. Residents said that the body of Afghan soldier was found inside Pakistan territory which was handed over to the Afghan authorities on Sunday morning.

The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) chief, Maj-Gen Shaukat Sultan, when approached on telephone, denied reports about clashes between Pakistani and Afghan forces. The ISPR spokesman said that the Afghan National Army clashed with miscreants near Angor Adda in which one soldier was killed and another wounded.
