Twenty-six brigadiers promoted

ISLAMABAD, Jan 7: President General Pervez Musharraf on Friday promoted 26 brigadiers of Pakistan Army to the rank of major-general.

The promotions were decided at a meeting of the army selection board held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) under the chairmanship of General Musharraf.

Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) said that out of 805 officers granted commission in the army in 1975-1976, only 119 (14.78 per cent) made it to the rank of brigadier after meeting stringent promotion criterion, comprising various courses, promotion examination, exhibited performance and earlier selection boards.

The selection board which met on Friday considered 119 brigadiers and recommended 26 of them (3 per cent) for promotion to the rank of major-general.

The following are the brigadiers promoted to major-general: Brigadier Mian Nadeem Ijaz Ahmed (Armoured Corps); Brig Waheed Arshad Chaudhry (Armoured Corps); Brig Ather Abbas (Armoured Corps); Brig Zahid Mubashir Sheikh (Artillery); Brig Syed Ithar Hussain Shah (Artillery); Brig Liaqat Ali (Artillery); Brig Wajahat Ali Muftee (Artillery); Brig Tahir Ali (Air Defence); Brig Imtiaz Ahmad (Engineers); Brig Hamid Mahmud (Signals); Brig Shafqaat Ahmed (Punjab Regt); Brig Asif Yasin Malik (Punjab Regt); Brig Mohammad Haroon Aslam (Azad Kashmir Regt); Brig Rashad Mahmood (Baloch Regt); Brig Mohammad Yaqoob Khan (Azad Kashmir Regt); Brig Syed Shakeel Hussain (Baloch Regt); Brig Gul Mohammad (Frontier Force Regt); Brig Ghulam Mustafa Kausar (Azad Kashmir Regt); Brig Noor Hussain (Baloch Regt); Brig Tahir Mahmud Malik (Frontier Force Regt); Brig Syed Guftar Shah (EME); Brig Tanvir Tahir (EME); Brig Mohammad Javed Khan (Army Medical Corps); Brig Abdul Malik (Army Medical Corps); Brig Nasim ul Majeed (Army Medical Corps); and Brig Badshah Khan (Army Medical Corps).
