KARACHI, Dec 28: The Sindh Minister for Mines and Mineral Development, Irfan Marwat, on Tuesday denied any irregularities in the process of appointment of 741 lecturers on contract basis in his tenure , and said there was no truth in the allegations levelled by the Sindh Education Minister, Dr Hamida Khuhro.

"Her statements are totally wrong. She goes on changing her statements, sometimes saying that irregularities were committed in written tests and sometimes alleging that interviews were not properly held. In fact, all candidates were declared pass on merit basis," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

His rebuttal came after Dr Hamida's statement on the flour of the Sindh assembly on Monday that her department had withheld the appointment of lecturers after receiving over 250 complaints of irregularities, besides her talk with newsmen after the session suggesting fresh tests/interviews through the Sindh Public Service Commission in view of alleged irregularities.

Mr Marwat viewed that those who could not succeed in getting their candidates appointed were making such allegations. He said the decision to appoint lecturers on contract basis was taken by the provincial cabinet at that time in view of shortage of college teachers and on the demand of the World Bank. - PPI
