KARACHI, Dec 3: The Governor Sindh, Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, has directed all government departments to ensure implementation of the two per cent quota in jobs reserved for disabled persons.

He also stressed the private sector to play their role in engaging disabled persons in various jobs according to their skills to make them feel important and an integral part of society instead of discarding them.

This he said while receiving a memorandum containing various demands by Jaffar Shah and Wasim Raja of the United Alliance of Disabled and Lal Muhammad of Special Sports Association Mirpurkhas, on the occasion of the World Day of Disabled, at the Governor House, Karachi.

The memorandum contained demands for strict implementation of the disabled quota in jobs, formation of committees to monitor the execution of the job quota, no fare for disabled persons in public and private transport including railway, and release of Rs25,000 to each disabled from the Zakat Fund and Baitul Mal for self-employment.

Ibad directed the concerned authorities to consider the demands sympathetically and take immediate steps to provide relief to special persons. He maintained that all-out efforts would be made to offer them various facilities including relief in transport fares, directing the concerned authorities to prepare a comprehensive plan in this respect.

The governor reiterated his directives that vacant posts under the disabled quota should be filled only by disabled persons. - PPI
