KARACHI, Nov 23: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday issued notice to Deputy Attorney General and Advocate General Sindh for Nov 30 on a petition against detention of the elder brother of convicted Al-Qaeeda leader in US.

Zainab Bibi alleged that her spouse Abdul Qadir, elder brother of Yousuf Ramzi, was arrested by law-enforcement agencies on Nov 12 from his house and his whereabouts are still unknown. The LEAs had earlier arrested and detained him but he was later released by them.

Naming the interior ministry and the home department as respondents, the court was prayed to direct the respondents to produce the detainee before court and disclose charges against him, if any.

SHC's division bench, comprising Chief Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad and Justice Maqbool Baqar, after preliminary hearing of the petition, issued notices to respondents for Nov 30.

Meanwhile, the same court adjourned the hearing of a petition filed by a woman against the detention of her spouse by the law enforcement agencies on a request by the federal attorney.

DAG Syed Zaki Mohammad sought time to file reply on behalf of respondents. The court granting time fixed the matter for Nov 30. Farhat Riaz, making the ministry of defence and Commander Karachi as respondents, alleged that her spouse Mohammad Riaz was arrested by the law enforcement agencies on Oct 18 without any reason. -PPI
