Gibbs won't tour India

KANPUR, Nov 22: South Africa's cricket chief on Monday said Herschelle Gibbs, named in the match-fixing probe which brought down former captain Hansie Cronje, would not tour India for the ICC Champions Trophy scheduled for 2006.

"Gibbs has been advised by his lawyers not to tour India," Gerald Majola, chief executive officer of the United Cricket Board of South Africa, told a press conference here.

Gibbs and Nicky Boje withdrew from the ongoing two-Test tour fearing detention by Indian police as their names figured prominently in the case being investigated for four years. -AFP
