GUJRAT, Aug 30: Dinga police on Sunday night registered two separate cases against 176 people, including former chief minister Mian Afzal Hayat , District Naib Nazim Mian Arshad Hayat, former MPA Mian Tariq Mahmood and former Dinga MC chairman Mian Amjad Mahmood, for exchanging fire and injuring men of their groups over a wagon stand row.

The first FIR was lodged under sections 324, 148 and 149 of the PPC on the complaint of Mian Iftikhar Ahmad against 18 nominated accused, including Tariq Mahmood, his brother Amjad Mahmood, Jani Chak UC Naib Nazim Mian Idrees and Mian Khadim.

On the complaint of Amjad Mahmood, another FIR was lodged under same sections against 158 people. They included former CM Afzal Hayat, his brother Mian Arshad Hayat (district Naib Nazim), Mian Asghar Hayat, Mian Iftikhar Ahmad and Muhammad Ali.

The police have arrested three each men of both the groups, including Mian Amjad, Mian Idrees and Mian Khadim of Mian Tariq group and Mian Arshad Hayat, Main Iftikhar and Muhammad Ali of Mian Afzal Hayat group.

Members of both the groups exchanged fire over a wagon stand row on Saturday, which left three men of Hayat group and one man of Mian Tariq group injured. Both the groups belong to the PML.

Sources claimed that Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and former MNA Syed Manzoor Shah had been making efforts for reconciliation between the two groups. Gujrat DPO Raja Munawar Husain had suspended from service Dinga police station moharrar Muhammad Afzal for showing negligence in the case. A similar action is expected against some other policemen.
