KARACHI, July 16: Rain emergency plan for the areas of Defence Housing Authority and Clifton Cantonment Board has been finalized to meet any emergency in case of heavy rains during the forthcoming monsoon season.

The plan was finalized at a meeting presided over by DHA administrator Brig Maqsood Hussain here on Friday. He stressed upon the importance of making all out preparations before rains to effectively combat any untoward situation.

Brig Maqsood underlined the importance for intricate planning and allocation of adequate resources in advance. He directed that control centres be established to work round-the-clock during the rainy season for prompt action on public complaints.

Earlier, DHA Deputy Director (Maintenance and General Services) Maj Javaid Munawwar highlighted preparatory actions taken by the DHA and the CCB in connection with rain emergency including cleanliness of all storm water drains and nullahs, cleaning of manholes and sewerage lines in DHA localities.

Brig Maqsood also directed that the whole of DHA and Clifton Cantonment Board area be properly sprayed and disinfected after the rains by Clifton Cantonment Board. He also stressed the need for planning flood relief camps to meet any untoward emergency.

The meeting decided to establish two control centres, which would work round-the-clock during the rains to effectively monitor and control the entire relief operation.

One control centre would be established at DHA Main Office. The residents of DHA Phase I, II, II (Ext) and IV have been advised to contact Maj Javaid Munawwar on 5886412, 5886401-05/Ext 2058 and 0300-8295568 during the rain emergency.

The residents of Phase-V, V-Ext, VI, VII, VII-Ext and all kutchi abadis in jurisdiction of Clifton Cantonment Board have been asked to contact Chief Engineer Muhammad Idrees and Sanitary Superintendent Muhammad Mukhtar at telephone nos 5843221, 58478930, 0300-2234795, 0333-2250525 and 5847831 for their problems during the rainy season.
