HYDERABAD, July 8: Residents of Pathan Goth, Qasimabad, including women and children, held a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Thursday against collapse of the water supply system and sewerage.
Speaking on the occasion, Aleem Malik, Aijaz Ali Lashari, Ghaffar Malik and others said the former Sindh governor had announced a package of Rs500 million for improvement of water supply and drainage systems of Hyderabad, Latifabad and Qasimabad talukas but the amount had not been released so far.
They complained that even drinking water was not available in their area. They appealed to the Sindh government to release the development package announced by the then governor.
DEMO: Farmers, peasants and activists of human rights organizations here on Thursday marched from the Haider Chowk to the press club, demanding that the government should play its due role in formulating farmers-friendly policies at the WTO meeting, scheduled to be in Geneva from July 15.
The march was held under the banner of the Action Aid Pakistan, Green Rural Development Organization, Pakistan Kissan Ittehad and other organizations. Speaking on the occasion, Comrade Ghulam Hussain, Qamar Shaikh, Jam Saqi, Dr Haider and others also demanded that state land should be distributed among landless peasants.
HESCO: The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company would complete village electrification projects, proposed by legislators, on time, said a spokesman for the company in a statement issued here on Thursday.
The spokesman said People's Party Parliamentarians MPA Abdul Qadir Soomro inaugurated the electrification scheme of the Saheb Khan Leghari village in Tando Mohammad Khan under the Tamir-i-Sindh programme. He said Rs961,716 had been spent on the scheme and added 50 connections had been installed in the village free of charge.
SU RESULTS: The controller of examinations, University of Sindh, on Thursday announced results of semester examinations of 2003 of various disciplines.
The results of examinations of B.A-I (hons) in Urdu, international relations and Muslim history, B.A-II (hons) in Urdu, Sindhi, M.A, previous, in Muslim history, Urdu, Sindhi, general history, and regular candidates of Urdu and Arabic and international relations were announced.
The university also announced the results of M.A, final, in Muslim history, Urdu, and Sindhi, B.Sc-I (hons), B.Sc-II (hons) in microbiology, B.Sc-I (hons) in botany and M.Sc (previous) in botany, and M.Sc, final, in botany. The results of BS, information technology and BS, software engineering (hons) were also declared.
