LAHORE, July 5: The government has failed to implement its own National Sports Policy, said secretary Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) Idris Haider Khwaja adding it has so far done nothing to enforce 15 out of a total 17 clauses of the policy , which directly falls within its ambit.

The rest of policy will be implemented by National Sports Federation (NSF). Speaking at a function organized by Sports Journalists Association Lahore on Monday, he said that it was government's responsibility to provide infrastructure.

The country has only one cycling velodrome in Lahore. "And that too is incomplete. Despite this, our cyclists are improving timings for which the credit goes solely to them," he said.

He suggested that the government should at least build another velodrome in Karachi if it was not possible for it to build more. "Our cyclists returned from Sri Lanka on March 2.

They also participated in Tour de Azarbaijan in May where they gave performance at par with teams from Germany, Holland and other European nations". Unveiling the calendar of PCF activities, he said a race would be held from Karachi to Hyderabad on Aug 14, followed by Tour de Pakistan from Dec 18 to 30, which will start from Karachi and conclude in Peshawar.

The Peace Cycle Race from New Delhi to Islamabad will be held on July 18. Besides, Pakistan team will take part in the Asian cycling championship to be held in India next year.
