Imran and Jemima divorce

ISLAMABAD, June 22: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan announced on Tuesday that he had divorced his wife, Jemima Khan, after more than nine years of their marriage. "I sadly announce that Jemima and I are divorced," he said in a statement released by the PTI.

"This was a mutual decision and is clearly very sad for both of us," he said and added: "My home and my future is in Pakistan." The opposition member in the National Assembly said: "Whilst Jemima tried her best to settle here, my political life made it difficult for her to adapt to life in Pakistan."

Imran Khan married Jemima, daughter of late British billionaire Sir James Goldsmith, in 1995. She had converted to Islam. The couple have two sons, who recently moved to London with their mother to be educated there. The Associated Press quoted a PTI member as saying that the couple had formally divorced a few days ago.

PPI adds: PTI Information Secretary Akbar Babar said the divorce between Imran, 51, and Jemima, 29, took place a few days ago in England. He said it took place amicably and the two had resolved all issues between themselves.
