KARACHI, June 22: A women technical institute set up in Lyari would be provided with equipment and furniture by August this year. This information was provided to the House on Tuesday in response to a written question of Muhammad Rafique.

Likewise, in reply to questions of Ms Heer Ismail Soho, the House was informed that there did not exist any girls college in Mirpur Bhatoro. However, the government girls high school was upgraded to higher secondary school, and an additional room would be constructed as per requirement.

Only two subject specialists were working on seven posts of BPS-17, while the remaining five posts would be filled soon. To another question of Ms Soho, the house was informed that Mono-technical College Mirpur Bhatoro was not being shifted to any other place.

Responding to Ms Sharfunnisa's query, the chief minister informed the house that there were 4,035 students enrolled in Govt Girls College, Sita Road, Taluka Khairpur Nathan Shah, District Dadu upto December 15, 2003, which was working without a principal and subject specialists. Except six computers donated by a private organisation, no computer was provided by the government.

The chief minister said, the government had sanctioned 81 govt commercial centres in Sindh during 1987-88 and 1989-90, and the education department had issued orders for upgrading the centres into govt colleges for education.

The finance department was made to make necessary correction in the budget book dated November 2, 2002 but the budget was released under the head of the govt commercial centres.

However, the education department has again requested the finance department to make necessary correction - by its letter dated August 6, 2003 - as new setup of 26 colleges as per demand of Directorate of Technical Education Sindh, Karachi.
