KARACHI, June 17: A large number of houses, situated on both side of Baghdadi's D D Chaudhry Road and Lyari's Tannery Road, have not been getting water supply for the last 12 days in the current hot and humid weather.

People residing in huge housing complexes such as Rabia City Flats and Golden Heights, in Gulistan-i-Jauhar's Block 13, also complained of acute water shortage, continuing for the last two months.

A similar complaint has been received from the residents of bungalows, situated in the vicinity of Rabia City flats and Golden Heights. Besides, complaints of persisting water shortage have also been received from the residents of Gulshan-i-Iqbal's Metroville- III (Block 1), Clifton's Block 2, Jutland lines, Keamari, Jehangir Road's government quarters, Jamshed quarters, Mehmoodabad No 6, Gizri, Shershah, SITE (residential and industrial areas) and different sectors of Orangi, Baldia and Surjani Towns.

In a letter to the KWSB's managing director, dated June 16, the Mohalla committee of Baghdadi's D D Chaudhry Road (Union Council No 5), complained that although the lingering water shortage in the locality was temporarily resolved in the first week of June, but it was since June 5, they had not been supplied water.

Accusing valve-men at the Moosa Lane pumping station of creating problems in their localities, they deplored that despite writing a number of letters to the KWSB senior officials, the shortage was still there.

Deploring that a considerable quantity of water was being wasted from a number of leaking pipelines, near KMC Maternity Home, and also from the recently-laid pipeline, the office-bearers of the committee alleged that the KWSB officials concerned were not taking measures to plug these leakages.

Residents of Gulshan-i-Iqbal's Metroville-III (Block 1) alleged that the KWSB officials concerned, in collusion with water mafia, were creating artificial water shortage in their locality.

Attributing the persisting water shortage to the alleged illegal connections, they demanded of the city nazim to inquire into the matter and help resolve their lingering water issue as they couldn't afford to buy water from private tankers.

JUTLAND LINES: Residents of Jutland Lines regretted that around 25-20 houses, situated near Jamia Masjid Madina, had been deprived of water for the last two months, while the KWSB officials had failed to resolve the issue despite lodging of a number of complaints.
