MONTREAL, June 14: Ferrari's Michael Schumacher won the Canadian Grand Prix to write yet another page in the Formula One record book on Sunday as the first driver to win the same race seven times.

While the world champion punched back from his lowest starting position of the year to win for the seventh time in eight races, Ferrari were handed a one-two when Ralf Schumacher's Williams was disqualified.

Brazilian Rubens Barrichello, Schumacher's Ferrari team mate, moved up to second place with Briton Jenson Button inheriting third for BAR. It was the German's 77th career victory and third in a row at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit.

Both Williams and Toyota failed a post race technical inspection for using oversized brake ducts on their cars. Button's podium was his sixth of the year and consolidated his third place in the championship. But he had left the circuit by the time the results were declared official hours after the race had ended.

Schumacher leads the 18 race championship with 70 points to Barrichello's 54. Briton Jenson Button has 44. Ferrari have 124 points to Renault's 61. Under the revised results, Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya lost his fifth place for Williams while Toyota had Brazilian Cristiano da Matta ruled out of eighth place.

Instead, Italian Giancarlo Fisichella moved up to fourth for Sauber. Finland's Kimi Raikkonen was fifth for McLaren, despite a drive-through penalty, with British team mate David Coulthard sixth in a major turn-up for the struggling team who had scored just five points before Sunday.

Germany's Timo Glock claimed seventh place on his race debut for Jordan as a stand-in for Italian Giorgio Pantano, sidelined by a management dispute. Compatriot and team mate Nick Heidfeld was eighth, allowing Jordan to leapfrog Toyota and Jaguar in the constructors' standings.

Any hopes of a fresh face, such as Button, on the top step of the podium vanished as it became apparent that Schumacher's sixth place on the grid was down to Ferrari qualifying with a heavier fuel load.

But there was also, all too briefly, the rare sight of Barrichello on Schumacher's tail and looking as if he might attempt to pass the number one. Italian Jarno Trulli, winner in Monaco last month and starting third, retired at the start. It was the first time this season that he had failed to score points.

Sauber's Brazilian Felipe Massa was taken to hospital after a heavy crash for an x-ray on his elbow.
