DHAKA, June 14: A section of stranded Pakistanis has announced a programme of action, including a siege to the prime minister's office, the Pakistan High Commission and the UN office in Dhaka, to press their demand for Bangladeshi citizenship.

The programme was announced at a public meeting held in Mirpur-11 on Monday. About 250,000 'stranded Pakistanis' have been living in 66 'camps' in Bangladesh since the country's independence in 1971.

The meeting organized by the Stranded Pakistanis Youth Rehabilitation Movement, called upon the government to meet their 12-point demand, particularly that of granting them Bangladeshi citizenship.

Other demands include improvement of facilities in their camps, inclusion of their names in the voters' list and financial support. Under the programme, they will lay the siege to the prime minister's office on July 14 and submit a memorandum to the prime minister, to the Pakistan High Commission on August 14, and to the UN office in Dhaka on September 14.
