SANAA, March 5: Five people were killed and 30 others wounded on Friday when a gunman opened fire outside a mosque in the southern Yemeni province of Dhamar before killing himself, a security official quoted by the official SABA news agency said.

After Friday prayers, Abdallah Ahmed Yahia Zeid Ghassan threw two grenades and sprayed bullets at worshippers, killing five people, including one woman, said the official.

Some 30 other people were wounded in the violence that rocked the area of Mekhlaf Samah after the shooting. The assailant fled the scene of the attack and barricaded himself in his home, besieged by local residents and police, before turning his gun on himself. -AFP
