COLOMBO, Jan 15: With the signing of an agreement between the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) of President Chandrika Kumaratunge and the Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) just days away (Jan 20) , political sources are speculating that the next move by the president would be to call elections in April.

They point out that a general election at this juncture would put Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in deep trouble, stalling the peace process with the LTTE.

The JVP's Tilvin Silva in an interview said the JVP would steer the SLFP into a Marxist line and that it would not "drown" in capitalism but stated that it would support globalization in a "positive" manner.
