LAHORE, Jan 5: A two-day convention of the Pakistan Social Forum will be held here on Jan 12 and 13 to discuss its strategy and agenda for the international convention of the World Social Forum scheduled to be held at Mumbai, India, in the third week of this month.

Over 1000 delegates will attend the Mumbai convention. Thousands of delegates from all parts of the country will participate in the Lahore convention that will be held at Alhamra halls and the Aiwan-I-Iqbal. Seminars on various subjects of social, political and economic importance will also be held during the convention.

The subjects inter alia include peace, democracy, human rights, poverty alleviation, eradication of unemployment, the evils of sectarianism, the caste system, militancy, equitable distribution of national resources among the federating units of the country, NFC Award, provincial autonomy, globalization, workers' rights and the labour policy, environmental problems, consumers' rights, the problems of media and freedom of expression, WTO policies' effects on Pakistan's trade and industry etc. Various cultural programmes, including music concerts, stage plays and special documentary films, will also be held during the convention.
