MULTAN, Aug 30: Judgment in the Meerwala gang-rape case, reserved by the Anti-Terrorism Court, Dera Ghazi Khan Judge, Malik Zulfiqar Ali, on Tuesday, will be announced on Saturday, Aug 31.

Special Prosecutor for the case, Malik Khalid Joya and his team, have sought death penalty for the accused under the relevant provisions of Hudood Ordinance and Anti-Terrorism Act.

It is pertinent to mention here that a woman was allegedly gang-raped by four persons of the Mastoi tribe in village Meerwala, tehsil Jatoi, district Muzaffargarh, on June 22, 2002.

The sordid side of the story is that the gang-rape was allegedly authorised by a Punchayat.

Fourteen accused comprised four rapists and ten juror-abettors. Alleged rapists are; Abdul Khaliq, Ghulam Farid, Allah Ditta and Mohammad Fayyaz.

Alleged juror-abettors are: Faiz Bux Mastoi (head juror), Ramzan Pachar, Mohammad Aslam, Allah Ditta, Khalil Ahmad, Ghulam Hussain, Huzoor Bux, Rasool Bux, Mohammad Qasim and Nazir Hussain.—APP
