BRB Canal closed again

Published December 13, 2008

SIALKOT, Dec 12: The Irrigation Department has again closed the Bambanwala-Ravi-Baidian (BRB) Canal emanating from Marala Headworks owing to shrinking inflows in the Chenab.

The Marala-Ravi Link Canal, also originating from the same headworks, has been lying closed for the last four months.

The two other canals -- Upper Chenab and Lower Chenab – are flowing well below their capacity.

According to Irrigation Department sources, the cut in Chenab inflows has affected farming over 2.5 million acres across Punjab -- in the districts of Sialkot, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Nankana, Jhang and Faisalabad.
