RAWALPINDI, Dec 11: Airport police on Thursday obtained one day physical custody of a man accused of killing his ex-fiancée in the name of honour after she got married to another man of her own free will.

Airport Area Magistrate Malik Shafique Ahmed remanded Mustafa Syed into the police custody for one day as the investigation officer brought the accused to the court late and could not get the remand from the anti-terrorism court.

Airport police had booked Mustafa, a resident of a village in Kallar Syedan, for shooting and injuring his fiancée Rizwana in the premises of Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench on December 3 after she came out of the court of Justice M A Zaffar.

The woman received three bullet injuries and died on December 8 in district headquarters (DHQ) hospital.

The deceased woman had moved the LHC seeking annulment of an FIR registered against her husband Shafat Janjua with Kallar Syedan Police about her abduction on the complaint of her brother. Rizwana, 21, had stated before a judicial magistrate that she had married Shafat of her consent and feared that her family might kill her in the name of honour.

A police constable escorting the unlucky woman overpowered Mustafa and handed him over to Airport police. Police registered murder and attempt to murder and terrorism cases against the accused on the complaint of the police constable. The mother of the deceased woman had taken her body to the native village for burial. —Our Reporter
