ISLAMABAD, Nov 11: Noted Sindhi writers and poets have welcomed the government’s decision to appoint Fakhar Zaman as the new chairman of the Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL).

Those who hailed the appointment included Ghulam Rabbani Agro, Gul Mohammad Umrani, Hamid Sindhi, Shamshir Haidri, Ghulam Mohammad Lakho, Abdul Qadir Junejo, Dr Abdul Jabbar Junejo, Ghulam Nabi Mughal, Nasir Mirza, Momin Bullo, Taj Joyo, Anwar Figar Hakro, Dr Allah Rakhyo Butt, Anwar Saghar Kandhro and Liaqat Junejo.

In a statement, they expressed their full confidence in Mr Zaman and said with his appointment, the dark days of the academy would be over, adding that chances for the development of Pakistani languages and their literature were bright.The writers have appealed to Fakhar Zaman to meet the representatives of the regional language writers from Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and the NWFP to find out facts and remove the sense of deprivation among them.
