Rashid Latif withdraws resignation

ISLAMABAD, Nov 6: Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif withdrew his resignation as wicket-keeping coach of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) on Thursday after the cricket board denied appointing Salim Malik as head coach of the academy.

A court last month lifted a life ban on Malik imposed for involvement in match-fixing, allowing him to resume his involvement in cricket.

Rashid had given evidence to the initial PCB-commissioned inquiry that recommended a life ban for Malik.

“I talked to the chairman [Pakistan Cricket Board] today and he made it clear that Mr Salim Malik was not given any appointment at the academy,” Rashid told The Associated Press.

Rashid had quit in protest on Wednesday after Malik claimed that he had been appointed head coach of the NCA.

“Now I have no problems in continuing as wicket-keeping coach at the academy,” added Rashid, who started in the role in January.

The 40-year-old Rashid had said that he was “shocked” to learn that Malik had been linked to such a key post at the academy.

Rashid played 37 Tests for Pakistan — six as captain — between 1992 and 2003, scoring 1,381 runs. He collected 119 catches and 11 stumpings. He also played 166 One-day Internationals, taking 182 catches, completing 38 stumpings and scoring 1,709 runs.—AP
